UNDERSTANDING TEAM CULTURE IN A CHANGING ENVIRONMENT

Dr Ian Brooks, Adjunct Senior Fellow at the University of Canterbury and teambuilding practitioner, will discuss:
What is team culture? Why do we need to pay attention to it? Why is it even more important that we focus on it as leaders in a changing environment?
He will also discuss the recent findings from a summary of a decade of empirical research into what makes teams effective. He will draw out the key lessons for leaders today and talk on topics such as the growing importance of creating shared mental models in teams; the effect of leader mood on team productivity; and how team size affects the speed of team development, plus many other aspects of team leadership.
About the presenter:
Dr Ian Brooks is a Christchurch-based leadership development consultant. His primary areas of interest are in interpersonal and group dynamics, and in helping leaders to build teams that are focused on producing exceptional results. Ian is an Adjunct Senior Fellow at the University of Canterbury where he teaches courses on team leadership and interpersonal/group dynamics on the MBA Programme. He has received a number of teaching awards, including in 2005 the University of Canterbury Teaching Award. His background includes senior executive positions in the business and public sector. Ian's qualifications include a BA, an MBA(Hons), a PhD in management, and an M.Ed(Dist) Cert Counselling. He is also qualified in Experience-Based Learning and Training by the NTL Institute.
Who can attend: This clinic is only open to Nominated Managers of the Leadership Development Centre.
