What is your vision as a leader? What are your values and sense of purpose? Take time out and reflect on these personal foundations for effective leadership. Discover ways to increase meaning in your role to help you lead successfully in complex environments.

Research suggests that having a strong sense of meaning and contribution is a powerful driver of both organisational performance, and personal satisfaction and effectiveness.

Dr Peter Cammock will help you look at:

  • the personal foundations you need to be an effective leader, in particular the importance of meaning
  • your own personal values and the meaning you experience as a leader
  • ways to recraft your work to gain greater fulfilment and contribution.

Public sector leadership needs to be collective, systemic and experiential in nature. This transformation cannot be achieved by competency development alone but requires a shift in individual leader’s ‘interior condition’ - the inner place from which they operate. Personal wellbeing and meaning are important aspects of this interior condition, and therefore central elements of effective public sector leadership.

Take away from this Learning Lab strategies for increasing meaning in your organisation and in the way you experience your leadership role.

Facilitator Dr Peter Cammock

Pete Cammock is a co-founder and Director of Leadership Lab and a Senior Fellow at the University of Canterbury where he formerly worked as Director of Executive Development.

He has co-facilitated LDC's Leadership in Practice programme for nearly 10 years and his consulting experience spans over 25 years including facilitation, coaching, advisory and development roles with numerous private and public sector organisations and a wide range of NGO, local government and community leaders.

He has been described by NZ Management Magazine as ‘one of the nation’s best leadership writers’ and is the author of two books, The Dance of Leadership (2001, 2003) and The Spirit of Leadership (2008, 2009, 2013).

Through his work with leaders, Pete is focusing more and more on the practices of collective leadership that are necessary for organisations to thrive in complexity and on the personal foundations of mindfulness, positivity and meaning that support those practices.
