2013 LDC Fellows Robert Brodnax, New Zealand Transport Agency's Regional Manager, Planning Investment for the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions, knows about collaboration. He works with 17 local authorities, private developers and iwi to optimise the government's multi-million dollar investment in the region's transport networks, ensuring it is integrated with land use and delivers value for money.

During his 2013 LDC Fellowship, Robert explored how public and private sector leaders in the United Kingdom and the United States configured their organisations to be effective in collaborative environments. Robert focussed on how leaders collaborated effectively, created collaborative cultures, and developed their staff capability to work collaboratively across agencies.

Robert has worked for the past twenty years at the interface between communities, local and central government and the private sector in policy development and implementation. He has led both central and local government teams, working on complex, multi-agency issues, such as the management of unwanted agrichemicals, waste minimisation, contaminated land, water quality and allocation, spatial planning, and the co-management of natural and physical resources.
