Through consultation with agency representatives, LDC has created common development for new people leaders (first-time managers), which is available to public service agencies to support their new people leaders' transition.
LDC recognises that small agencies need support to provide development to its new people leaders, so in 2020 we are offering six facilitated Workouts for small agency new people leaders (that is, people in the first 12 months of their first management role).
The Workouts are one of the components of the overall new people leader development programme. They are three-hour facilitated sessions where new people leaders can practise skills and use the learning they’ve gained from working through the new people leader Development and Action Guides*.
*7 Development and Action (D & A) Guides: New people leaders can work through the development material independently at their own pace. The D & A Guides can be downloaded from LDC's website.
Each guide includes readings, videos, reflection questions and other development activities and takes about five hours to complete. Completing a D & A Guide will help ensure participants gain real value from attending a Workout. The Workouts provide plenty of opportunity for discussing and learning about development in new roles, along with other new people leaders.
LDC is offering small agency new people leaders six Workouts on the topics that correspond to the D & A Guides.
We identified the seven most important development priorities for new people leaders to focus on in the first 12 months of transition: Mindset, Connect, Purpose, Achieve, Feedback, Develop, and Processes. These priorities, which build on leadership characteristics and are aligned to the Leadership Success Profile (LSP), are the D & A Guides topics.
The Workouts provide an opportunity for participants to discuss, learn and develop in their new roles, with other new people leaders.
The Workouts are designed as stand-alone learning sessions. A new people leader can register for some or all the Workouts, and it doesn't matter which one they start with. It will depend on when they begin their new role and how their transition progresses. Participants should choose the Workouts that match the D & A Guides they've completed.

Each Workout is $250 + GST for LDC members from small agencies.
