Blue screen appears with text:: How can leadership respond to a diverse NZ?

Text appears at bottom of screen: Talei Pasikale, Senior Analyst, The Treasury

Talei: I think leaders can respond to a diverse New Zealand by actually understanding the value that diversity brings. You have different ... you know in any situation you're going to have different people with different world views, different socio-economic backgrounds, different cultural backgrounds and I think it's about how do you, you know, relate to each of those different people but also value those contributions that they have. Because I think the diversity can be more than just skin colour, it can actually be educational and so your particular educational background it may give you a particular frame and so the way that you might talk about something, you know, is completely different on how someone else might approach it and it can also be you know what do you value more so some people might value, say, a relation you know, the relationship so talking to people and having that one-on-one conversation, whereas others might be, you know, they value the details so you want to setup the big picture so it's in knowing this but also being clear in yourself, okay, yes, there's a diverse background, yes there's this diverse setting but what is it that we're trying to achieve from this and how do you make the most of this community.
