Engaging others

As a public sector leader you need to connect with and inspire your employees to engage and motivate them, to achieve better results for your organisation, the sector and New Zealand. This resource will provide you with some practical ideas and tools that you can incorporate into your leadership approach to become more effective at engaging others.

Leaders at all levels of an organisation have the ability to create an engaged and motivated workforce through their decisions, attitudes and behaviours.  A prerequisite to having an engaged workplace is for you, as a leader, to role model the engagement.

Engagement matters. Research has frequently shown that engaged employees are more motivated, productive and committed to their organisation, have lower absenteeism and turnover rates, and drive better business results and customer satisfaction than their less-engaged peers (Gallup, 2013). In other words, engaged employees try harder, perform better and are less likely to leave an organisation.
