Ryan’s personal whakaaro is that coaching is grounded in manaakitanga – it is fundamentally grounded in encouraging an individual to stand tall in their mana.

He leads his coaching with ‘Way of Being’. Way of being refers to the energy and mindset a coach brings to the coaching relationship, and a belief that each of us has our own unique potential that we wish to express.

Ryan’s coaching is always focused on the unique individual before him, grounded in ‘unconditional positive regard’ – accepting and supporting the client for who they uniquely are, and helping them on their journey towards become the individual they wish to be.

In short – he’s good at bringing the science of leadership and wellbeing back into the real world and making it valuable for real people.

He is currently a PhD student at Victoria University of Wellington in the field of Organisational Behaviour. His research explores how individuals navigate towards becoming their ‘ideal self’ at work, how they navigate challenges and change, and their sense of wellbeing at work.

Beyond his research, he has significant experience delivering practical and actionable wellbeing and leadership development workshops across the public and private sector. He is also on the board of ‘Freedom Philosophy’ – an organisation which facilitates philosophy programmes at Rimutaka Prison with inmates. He has facilitated a number of face-to-face programmes on personal success with ~100 individuals.

Ryan is a certified Positive Psychology Coach (Positive Acorn) and also certified in Brain-Based Coaching (Neuroleadership Institute).
