Carolina in her Corrections uniform“I am honoured and humbled to be the recipient of the 2023 Ria McBride Public Service Award. I feel privileged to receive this incredible support. This generous award will assist me in achieving my goals and will minimise the financial costs of studying at tertiary level.

My time with the Department of Corrections has prepared me well for the nursing pathway, as both professions provide numerous opportunities to assist people during vulnerable stages of their lives. Both professions are focused on people, and I have always valued relationships with others.

I am thrilled at the prospect of joining a trusted and respected profession, such as nursing, and I look forward to serving our families and communities with enthusiasm and strength. Mauri ora whānau!”

The Ria McBride Public Service Award aims to help women who have demonstrated personal fortitude and leadership potential currently working in the New Zealand Public Service to progress their career aspirations through tertiary study.
