Sam provides a productive and confidential reflection space that engages the whole person, professional and wider context of the client.  Balancing challenge with sensitivity, his good-humoured approach is informed by Acceptance and Commitment Coaching, basic matauranga Māori, Motivational Interviewing and Compassion Focused Leadership models.

To clarify expectations, Sam provides a coaching agreement (triangulating with sponsors as appropriate) and a written initial summary for his clients.  As a result, the coaching relationship is purposeful from the outset and ensures insights are responsive to the individual organisational, community, environmental and future-focused context in which they operate, lead and contribute.

Originally trained as a forensic psychologist in the UK – and having held team leadership roles in Corrections and Health settings – Sam has 20 years of coaching experience across various levels of the Aotearoa Public, Private and Not-for-Profit sectors, with an increasing focus upon senior leadership in the past decade.

Sam’s practice in diverse, high pressure, high risk contexts includes: facilitation of action learning groups for CEOs of large not for profits; consultancy to Médecins Sans Frontières; provision of coaching supervision; coaching, co-design and facilitation of Inclusive Leadership related programmes with Fire and Emergency New Zealand.

To maintain his own balance, he enjoys tramping, gardening and parenting and provides pro-bono coaching and practical support to a couple of not-for-profits.

Sam is a registered/chartered coaching psychologist (NZ/UK). He is accredited in Coaching Supervision (Oxford Brookes Business School; International Society for Coaching Psychology) and an associate fellow, International Society for Coaching Psychology.
